Staff outlines timeline for Naples Pier rebuild, beach-access restorations and park projects

Community Services Director Chad Merritt and Deputy Director Aaron Hopkins gave a broad staff report covering several capital and program items, including the Naples Pier reconstruction, beach-access restorations, playground and median projects, dock work and upcoming master-plan outreach.
Merritt said crews and contractors continue post-hurricane restoration work across beach accesses and that about "5 or 6 out of 30, technically out of 40" accesses remain to be reconstructed. He described coordination with a seawall project and a phased contractor schedule beginning at 18th Avenue South and moving north. On the Naples Pier, Merritt reported a crane on site and said the project is estimated to take about 18 months "without anything disrupting it."
Merritt also previewed Cambier Park playground replacement (RFP process underway) and several median-restoration and park repairs, including a planned Banyan Boulevard median revitalization and work at Riley Park and Baker Park. He noted an underground fuel-tank replacement project at the City Dock and staff promotions in the dock and facilities teams.
Deputy Director Aaron Hopkins highlighted recreation items: the CRA-approved River Park pool plaster and tile renovation now in permitting, strong program participation numbers, a December parade with approximately 120 floats and an estimated 20,000 attendees, and continued outreach for the master plan. Hopkins invited residents to an open house at Baker Park's Suggdon Gomez Center on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., and encouraged residents selected for the mailed survey to complete it when it arrives (staff expected distribution roughly mid-February after city-manager review).
What happens next: Staff will continue design, permitting and procurement work on the listed projects, return Cambier-related items to CSAB when contract/bid materials are ready (staff estimated March for the Cambier item), and proceed with the master-plan outreach and open houses.
