The Town Council voted to support multiple community events with modest donations and received an update from the local Main Street organization.
Ray Manny, an agriculture teacher at the high school, asked for a donation for the Class of 2026; council approved $700. Representatives seeking support for Juneteenth described a regional festival and the council approved $3,000 to support operations. Council also approved a $200 donation for a National Police Week recognition dinner; staff noted the event typically includes current and retired area law enforcement and serves roughly 120 officers.
Emily Davis, executive director of the Main Street program, presented reinvestment statistics: 11 events and seven new businesses in the main-street district in 2025, adding approximately 41 local jobs and approximately $158,000 in private investment. She previewed a workshop series for local businesses and said the Virginia Main Street designation remains in place for another year.
Councilors praised the Main Street results and encouraged continued coordination between government and private-sector partners for events that can increase downtown visitation.
