The Norwalk City Ordinance Committee on March 17 voted unanimously to send to public hearing a short implementing ordinance that would place a city council member on the Board of Estimate and Taxation as an ex officio representative.
Committee members discussed whether to provide for an alternate and the appropriate term length. Several members said an alternate would provide continuity during the intense budget season and could serve as a training pathway; council consensus settled on changing the draft to a two-year term rather than the originally proposed one-year term.
Members also discussed scheduling appointments to align with the council’s election calendar and using a resolution if the ordinance becomes effective before the end of the year to set initial term expiration dates. The committee moved the ordinance to public hearing, with staff noting the legal notice will be posted both in the town clerk’s office and on the Norwalk City ordinance committee web page ahead of the April hearing.
