The applicant said neighboring docks have similar configurations and boat lifts.
Planning Department staff member Jeff Rammer said the dock was originally permitted in February 2004, remains in its existing footprint and is "approximately 5 feet wide and 44 feet long over the water." He told the board the proposed boat lift would have a maximum piling protrusion of "approximately 33 feet over the water" and that the petition seeks to memorialize the configuration and allow the lift.
During questioning, the applicant confirmed four new pilings (two port, two starboard) would be installed and said CAD exhibits show engines and motors would remain within the structure and not change navigation. Board members discussed the variance threshold criteria and whether denying the lift would constitute an "unnecessary or unreasonable hardship;" staff said the property has been used in its current form for about 20 years.
Member Kreece moved to recommend approval subject to the staff report conditions plus an added third condition that the boat "shall not extend further than the edge of the dock." The motion passed on roll call; the board recorded unanimous support and the recommendation will be forwarded to City Council, which has final authority on the variance.
All materials, including neighbor letters that staff received and referenced in the staff report, are part of the official record forwarded with the recommendation.
