CRA approves demolition and sodding of 170 10th Street North, recommends City Council authorize demolition

The Naples Community Redevelopment Agency voted to authorize CRA funding to demolish and sod the building at 170 10th Street North and to recommend that City Council approve demolition and lot stabilization.
Anita Jenkins told the board the parcel had been discussed previously and presented four concepts including open space, parking and potential use for a pump station. Jenkins said the estimated cost to demolish and stabilize the lot is approximately $95,000.
Members debated whether to sell the parcel — purchased previously for about $4.8 million — lease it to a commercial tenant, or remove the building and hold the land as green space to protect future options such as stormwater infrastructure. "It's a non‑performing asset for the city and I'd like to see something done with it as soon as possible," one member said, while another argued selling at a loss could generate funds for River Park East infrastructure.
After discussion the board approved a motion to move forward with demolition and sodding and then approved a second motion recommending City Council authorize the demolition. A roll‑call vote recorded a 6–1 result with Member Blankenship the lone no vote.
The board also discussed how proceeds from any future sale should revert to CRA fund balance and be available for River Park East projects. City staff said City Council authorization will be required under Florida statute before demolition can proceed.
Next steps: staff will prepare the funding authorization and forward the recommendation to City Council for the separate demolition authorization required by state law.
