New chair elected; commissioners assigned to committees and liaison roles

The Naples Airport Authority opened its January meeting by electing commissioners to leadership and committee roles. Vice Chair Terry Cavanaugh was nominated from the floor and elected chair by unanimous roll call. The board then completed selections for vice chair and committee assignments.
Commissioner Arnold accepted the chairmanship of the audit committee; Commissioners Burns and Crease were invited to join that committee for continuity. Commissioner Alberto accepted a role on the Consultant Selection Committee. The board also discussed continuing the Noise Compatibility Committee liaison role and asked staff and general counsel to prepare a proposed job description so the authority can discuss the legal limits and expectations at its February meeting.
Several commissioners proposed establishing a formal liaison to City Council to improve transparency and coordination; general counsel and staff cautioned about Sunshine Law limits and emphasized that any liaison cannot exercise delegated decision‑making authority for the board. The board asked staff to draft potential role descriptions and return with recommendations at the next regular meeting.
