Design board continues vote on condo facade alterations to May 27

Daniel Corbin of CB Architects presented proposed façade updates that would remove decorative Bahama shutters, replace stone veneer with smooth stucco, refresh balcony railings and replace certain entry doors. Corbin said the work is intended to "refresh the building's appearance, enhance functionality and reduce overall maintenance." He also said there are no proposed landscaping changes.
Several board members criticized the extent of the proposed removals. One member said the plan "strips this building of any charm," urging the applicant to reinterpret the stone and retain compositional rhythm rather than removing all historic elements. Another member, a landscape architect, recommended reworking corner views and adding architectural accents or landscape pops that preserve the building’s sense of place.
Given the comments, the board offered the applicant an opportunity to revise the design and set a date‑certain continuance to avoid re‑noticing. The board approved a motion to continue the item to the May 27 meeting so the applicant can respond to board feedback and return with revised options.
The continuance was recorded by roll call; staff will circulate any necessary updated materials and the applicant said a month should be sufficient to return with revisions.
