District administrators presented several operational and instructional items to committee members on May 12.
Nonunion compensation: Mister Moulton told the Operational Services Committee the administration recommends a 4% increase for nonunion personnel, estimating an approximate cost of $840,000 for the coming fiscal year and noting the district negotiated a "me‑too" clause for SEIU custodial and food service employees that ties those contracts to nonunion increases. Moulton said the board will see the item for action at the May 26 meeting.
Facilities: Moulton said the district conducted a bid opening for Lewis School main lobby restroom and locker room improvements and is prepared to move forward with a notice of intent to proceed while staff target board approval on May 26. He told the committee the district is aiming for substantial completion of the restrooms around Aug. 7, with locker rooms depending on locker delivery and likely about a week to 10 days later; liquidated damages are included in the AIA contract language.
Curriculum and programs: At the Student Achievement Committee, administrators introduced the consolidated district plan (for grant planning) and a proposal to subscribe to the REP 95% phonics curriculum for low‑incidence classrooms. Doctor Bublitz said the district expects "probably around 200 to 250" low‑incidence students who might use the resource and that implementation is planned for the 2027–28 school year, with the administration to confirm exact counts prior to a formal vote. Administrators also proposed creating a new IB coach position to support a Primary Years to Middle Years continuum, initially at Abbott Middle School where leadership has expressed interest; the position is a new hire and will require board approval.
Other items included sending six teachers to the AVID summer institute to meet certification requirements and a SchoolMint renewal for coaching and observation supports. Board members asked for more precise counts and timelines before final votes; administration agreed to provide updated data at the next board meeting.
