Board hears grant-sponsorship inquiry, zoning approval for law-enforcement range and early-voting reminder

A supervisor (S2) said he had been contacted by a local company, CHS, seeking a public sponsor for a PDIP grant application due June 1 and said he would ask county staff (Eric, Danny and Kayla) to consult a known grant consultant to understand obligations and liabilities before deciding whether the county will sponsor the application.
County Development Director Eric Furnace reported the county zoning commission approved a site for a proposed law-enforcement training/shooting range off 41st Street on privately owned land under a potential lease arrangement; he said notices were sent to adjoining property owners and no one attended the hearing to object. "It's in the county," Furnace said, and noted the site is in a heavy-industrial area.
Tybee (S7) from the auditor's office reminded the board that early voting for the primary begins May 13 and runs through June 1, with auditors'office hours 8:00'4:30 and extended until 5:00 on the absentee-request deadline next Monday; she stressed that postmarks do not count and that voters must submit absentee-request forms in person by the deadline.
The board said county staff will review the CHS request immediately after the meeting.
