Kane County adopts ordinance requiring conditional-use projects to start within two years

Commissioner Gwen Brown moved to adopt the new wording: "Action authorized by a conditional use permit must commence within two years of the time the permit is issued. If the permit holder has not commenced action under the permit within this time, the permit shall expire and the holder must apply for a new permit. The Planning Commission shall grant extensions of up to one-year increments for good cause." The motion carried with all commissioners present voting in favor: Brown—aye; Patty Kubeja—aye; Celeste Meyeres—aye.
The amendment requires permit holders to begin physical or permitted activity within two years of permit issuance, subject to limited one-year extensions at the Planning Commission's discretion for good cause. The ordinance revises the county's Land Use Ordinance language; no additional budgetary, enforcement or implementation details were discussed at the meeting.
