The Thief River Falls City Council authorized the fire chief to host an informational meeting about a proposed rental inspection program on May 26 at 5 p.m. in the council chambers.
Staff said a rental-inspection ordinance has been in development with the Public Safety Committee for several years; the authorized meeting will include stakeholders who would be affected—owners, landlords and property managers—and is intended to explain the proposed program and collect questions and concerns before any formal ordinance action. "A few weeks ago we finally got a rental inspection ordinance worked out and so we're in the next steps moving forward," a presenter said.
Council members who had participated in the Public Safety Committee described the effort as a long process and urged the meeting as a helpful step. The motion to grant authorization carried by voice vote.
