The Altoona Area School District board paused regular business to recognize eight Altoona Area High School students who earned placement in Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All‑State ensembles.
Brett Keith, director of choirs and department chair for the Altoona Area High School Music Department and state president of PMEA, introduced the students and described the multi‑stage audition process that led to district, region and All‑State selections. He listed the honorees and their placements and thanked the board and the community for ongoing support of music education.
Student honorees recognized by name included Gabrielle Belden (soprano I, All‑State Choir), Graceland Belden (alto I, All‑State Choir), Nicholas Busse (percussion, All‑State Wind Ensemble), Owen Carmel (tenor I, All‑State Choir), Jaiman Dong (French horn, All‑State Wind Ensemble), Alexis Hawksworth (viola, All‑State Orchestra), Isaac Hillard (percussion, All‑State Orchestra), and Andrew Sackett (bass, All‑State Orchestra). Keith said the students prepared through a competitive audition process that drew participants from multiple counties and regional events held at resort venues in the Pocono Mountains.
The board and attendees congratulated the students; a student representative also offered brief remarks thanking the board for the opportunity to serve.
