Board approves agenda, curriculum additions, construction change orders and program pilots; all motions pass 7–0
Summary
At its May 12 meeting the Coweta County Board of Education unanimously approved the agenda, multiple CTAE course and pathway additions, PTO-funded playground projects, change orders for Central Educational Center, surplus of nutrition equipment, a two-week seamless summer feeding pilot, a milk procurement contract and student trip requests, with each recorded motion passing 7–0.
The Coweta County Board of Education recorded unanimous (7–0) approval on a slate of routine and substantive items during its May 12 meeting.
The board approved the agenda and minutes from April 14 and a call meeting on April 24. Under Group 1 action items the board approved three new CTAE courses for the Central Educational Center (Allied Health and Medicine; Patient Care; Audio, Video, TV and Film) and two new CTAE pathways (Heavy Equipment; Public Safety). The board approved several PTO-funded playground and outdoor projects: an Atkinson Elementary PTO request to purchase and install a Gaga ball pit (estimated $3,233.06) and a Canongate Elementary PTO sunshade (estimated $27,772.46).
Construction-related votes included approval of Change Order Proposal No. 12 to add owner-requested data cabling and install 16 digital signage boards and 23 interactive classroom/office boards at the Central Educational Center (net cost $164,481) and a change order to replace cylindrical locks with mortise locks on new doors at the CEC (net cost $26,954). The board approved the surplus of obsolete kitchen equipment from the nutrition program.
On school nutrition matters, the board approved a two-week Seamless Summer Option pilot for early June 2026; the pilot will serve children at two non-congregate sites and one congregate site and operate under USDA reimbursement guidelines (federal reimbursement rates cited in the presentation as $2.94 for breakfast and $4.71 for lunch). The board also approved a milk procurement contract from Borden's Milk for the 2026–27 school year for $622,082.74.
The board approved a student trip for Blake Bass Middle School band students to travel to Orlando, Fla., March 18–20, 2027, for a performance and recording opportunity; the trip was presented as incurring no cost to the school system and not requiring missed school days.
All motions recorded in the public portion of the meeting passed unanimously (7–0).
