Albany County approves capital program and dozens of bond resolutions totalling multi‑year projects
Summary
The Legislature adopted the Albany County Capital Program for 2027–2031 and passed a long slate of bond resolutions authorizing borrowing for sheriff's office upgrades, property acquisition, facility improvements, electric vehicles, road and trail work and other county projects; many votes were unanimous or passed by roll call.
On May 11 the Albany County Legislature approved the Capital Program for 2027–2031 (resolution 196) and then considered a package of bond and budget resolutions tied to that program.
The clerk read and the body voted on a long series of bond resolutions authorizing issuance of bonds for specific projects (examples from the meeting record):
- Resolution 169: Authorizing acquisition of security equipment for the Albany County Sheriff’s Department, issuance of $3,600,000 in bonds (roll call recorded and passed). - Resolution 179: Authorizing acquisition of property for county use, issuance of $17,000,000 in bonds (passed unanimously in the roll call shown). - Resolution 181: Authorizing acquisition of electric and zero‑emission vehicles and related infrastructure, issuance of $1,000,000 in bonds (roll call recorded; the resolution passed with 29 yes, 3 no and 1 abstention noted earlier in the packet for a related item).
Throughout the capital/bond section members asked for clearer project detail on some omnibus items (one legislator asked for more specificity about which recreational facilities or improvements would be funded). Several bond resolutions and supplemental appropriations were approved by roll call; many passed unanimously.
Several budget amendments, grant authorizations (for homeland security, mental health programs and others), and facility conveyances were also approved as part of the evening’s business.
