Ross said Head Start had level‑funded the CCPS preschool program for 2026–27 with a total operational budget of $1,124,989 and that CCPS would contribute $281,247.25 in in‑kind support. When asked about timing, Ross told trustees the grant would be submitted based on the school‑board‑approved budget to meet the June 1 deadline and that any county budget revisions later would be handled via a budget amendment.
During questions Dr. Rollins Fells asked about the impact of not having a county‑adopted budget and Ross replied it would not prevent submission; any changes could be addressed later through amendments. Ross also provided a Head Start per‑pupil estimate of "$11,841.99" for 95 Head Start students.
After discussion a motion to approve the Head Start grant application package was made, seconded, and the clerk recorded unanimous approval. The administration said it will proceed to submit the package and return to the board if budget amendments become necessary.
The approval ensures CCPS meets the Head Start application deadline while the county budget process continues.
