Rockledge High HELM students present to Port Canaveral; commissioners renew Junior Ambassadors program

Rockledge High School HELM seniors and their instructor, Anthony Garcia Sanchez, presented classroom and hands‑on maritime training to the Port Canaveral Authority Board and described career pathways the program supports.
"This program represents not only technical learning but also the relationships, mentorship and real world experience that help shape our students into future professionals," said Anthony Garcia Sanchez, the HELM program instructor, introducing students who described ship simulators, cruise‑ship tours and career‑readiness activities.
Students reported program participation and outcomes: the presenter cited 107 enrolled students with 36 in levels 3–4, 14 students who passed CLA/CLT certificates in shipping and logistics, five students heading into maritime fields after graduation, one student attending Massachusetts Maritime Academy, one attending Maine Maritime Academy and two joining the U.S. Navy.
Following the presentation, the chair moved to continue the Port's Junior Ambassadors program for the 2026–27 school year. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the continuation by voice vote; the chair and several commissioners noted the program's value as community outreach and youth engagement.
The board thanked students and instructors for the presentation and encouraged continued partnerships between the port and local schools.
