Board adopts VDOT secondary six-year plan after no public speakers

The Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors adopted VDOTs 20272032 secondary six-year plan during its May 11 meeting after a brief public hearing that drew no speakers.
Susan Hammond, VDOT resident administrator, told the board the draft plan was duly advertised and reviewed. She said VDOT revisited project estimates in light of significant cost increases and determined the projects listed were funded as expected; because of higher costs the department did not add new projects this year. Hammond noted one requirement for adding projects to the plan is meeting a traffic-volume threshold of at least 50 vehicles per day.
Supervisor comments included requests for greater flexibility to address safety-related repairs in the field and continued liaison with state representatives on local needs. The public hearing was opened and closed with no in-person or online comments, and the board adopted the six-year plan by motion.
The adopted plan will guide secondary road improvements in Rockbridge County for 20272032; staff and VDOT will continue coordination on individual projects and timing.
