Kootenai County commissioners approve payables, equipment purchases, retirements and annexation

KAITENAI COUNTY — The Kootenai County Board of Commissioners approved a slate of routine and operational items at its May 12 meeting, including payables, equipment purchases, personnel recognitions and several contracts.
The board approved payables for May 2026 in the amount of $1,530,825.10 and moved the consent calendar. It ratified a first amendment to an independent contractor agreement related to Centennial Trail asphalt replacement and approved purchases requested by the sheriff's office including a snowmobile trailer ($14,195) and two ATVs (combined $18,698). The board also approved a Title 3 reimbursement request for search-and-rescue operations totaling $26,113.86, and authorized replacement of damaged audiovisual equipment under an insurance-approved quote from VIP Production (about $52,000 before tax).
On personnel matters, the board approved retirement recognitions and the awarding of duty weapons, badges and ID cards for longtime sergeants as part of the retirement process, and it approved an independent-contractor appointment for Marcus Johnson to cover a community development examiner role following a retirement.
The board approved a software agreement with Informium LLC (about $750 per year) to improve property claimant processing and accepted remediation work and invoice for Meeting Room 1A in the CIR Pro building (remediation reported under approximately $7,000). The board also approved an annexation request to add property owned by John and Terry Bauer to the Worley Fire District following the district's noticed hearing.
Motions on these routine items were made, seconded and carried on the record; board members asked clarifying logistical and funding questions on several purchases before voting.
Next steps: staff will proceed with contract signings, equipment procurement and follow up on construction project planning tied to ARPA/regional capital work as previously budgeted.
