Public works and building & grounds report progress on culverts, new shop and jail remodel

Public Works Director Mike Casper and Building & Grounds Director Shane Jenkins updated the Duchesne County Commission on ongoing infrastructure and facilities work at the May 4 meeting.

Casper said crews completed a culvert replacement in Pleasant Valley, are shouldering the road near Pleasant Valley Hunting Preserve, and have graders working while moisture remains in the ground. He reported another culvert replacement on County Road 1 by Reed's Ranch could not be cleared without replacement and that a beaver issue is complicating work in that area. Casper said a mastic crew is working in Pleasant Valley and the county is coordinating with UDOT on bridge work in the Tabiona Valley. He noted the new public works building's steel is nearly complete and windows have been installed on the office side.

Jenkins reported the jail remodel is finished, including replaced kitchen equipment and new carpet. He said the Crossroads Senior Center remodel is underway: access doors have been replaced and two of six HVAC units have been installed. Jenkins described interior‑shop wall materials under discussion to protect insulation and noted dirt work has started for a generator at the administration building and for a new entry door. An Event Center project was also identified as a new oversight item.

Both directors described routine operational work and projects expected to continue as weather and scheduling permit. Commissioners thanked staff for the work and progress reports.
