Commission approves emergency repair and upgrade for Fire District No. 3 brush truck

The Reno County Commission on April 11 approved an emergency repair and upgrade for Brush Truck No. 394, a 2004 Chevrolet chassis, with a not-to-exceed cost of $20,000.
Chief Bobby White explained the truck’s frame that supports the tank and pump has rotted and requires disassembly and replacement. He told commissioners the district is moving toward a flatbed layout with a man-standing arrangement behind the cab for better visibility and safer firefighter operations; matching the other two brush trucks in the district would standardize valve and lever locations.
Staff said the county has sufficient funds in a special equipment account to cover the repair without impact on the general fund. Commissioner (S3) moved to approve the request and the chair seconded; the board called the roll and approved the motion.
The commission encouraged the district to proceed expeditiously so the repaired truck can return to service.
