Raytown board approves several purchases and a middle-school renovation project

At its April 13 meeting, the Raytown Quality Schools Board of Education approved multiple procurement and capital actions spanning classroom technology, security upgrades, safety equipment and a middle-school renovation.

The board accepted a KCAV bid for classroom interactive panels and installation at a board price of $531,135 after staff explained the district’s preference for the Clear Touch panels because of prior local experience and fewer required software components. "We like the Clear Touch panel; it works well in our environment, and there's no additional software required," a staff member said during the discussion.

The board also approved a $125,916.90 purchase from Electronic Technology Inc. for about 120 security cameras to add hallway coverage in elementary schools and to replace approximately 20 outdoor playground cameras. In a separate motion the district approved purchase of 13 automated external defibrillators to replace expiring units for $26,130.

Technology and support contracts approved included one year of SIS software support for $65,236.81 and other annual support and subscription items. Board members asked clarifying questions about product functions and vendor differences during the motions.

In facilities work, the board approved a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for renovation at Raytown Central Middle School with Newkirk Novak for $1,138,857. Staff described project scope to include secured entry work, HVAC/ventilation upgrades and reconfiguration to separate a wing used by Raytown Success Academy; contractors said the schedule targets completing work during the summer before students return.

Most of the approvals were made by motion, second and voice vote; specific roll-call tallies were not recorded in the transcript. Board members said these investments aim to improve learning environments, safety and system stability across the district.
