The Policy Committee unanimously approved a formal policy-adoption process and approved the goals and guidelines policy at Wednesday’s meeting, adopting procedural changes intended to increase transparency and standardize policy format.
Tara described the changes to the policy-adoption process: draft policies examined by the committee must be posted 24 hours in advance so the public and committee members have time to review; policies should follow a standardized format (purpose, definitions, content, cross references, legal references, document history); and the policy committee may identify obsolete policies but must send any proposal to withdraw a policy to the full board for final action. (Tara)
The goals and guidelines policy required only minor edits — moving draft dates into the document history — and the committee moved it to be elevated to the full board. Both items were approved by voice vote in committee with no nays recorded in the transcript.
The committee also confirmed deadlines and next steps: final redlines for these items (and for communications and student-device policies) should be ready for posting ahead of the May 20 full board meeting so the items can appear in the board packet.
