Board approves student travel to robotics world championship and archery nationals

The New Palestine Board of Trustees on April 13 unanimously approved requests for student travel to national competitions and accepted several program donations.
NPHS Principal Jim Voelz and NPHS Robotics Coach Timothy Tarplee requested permission for the NPHS robotics team to travel to St. Louis for the VEX Robotics World Championship the week of April 20–24, 2026; Board President Dan Walker moved approval and Brian McKinney seconded. The motion passed 5-0.
NPJH Principal Jessica Neill requested similar permission for the NPJH robotics team to travel to St. Louis April 27–30, 2026; Jon Hooker moved, Brian McKinney seconded and the board approved 5-0.
Principals Vincent Meo (NPI), Jim Voelz (NPHS) and Jessica Neill (NPJH) also requested approval for qualifying student archers to compete at the Archery Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky, May 7–9, 2026. The board approved the travel for those students on a 5-0 vote.
During the donations item, the board accepted several gifts intended for student programs: small cash donations to the NPJH band program, two checks for NPHS (a $500 gift in honor of Lisa Hardin and a $1,000 gift), a $1,000 Fidelity Charitable grant for vocal choirs, and a $3,500 Tech Point Foundation donation for district robotics programs. The board approved acceptance of the donations by a 5-0 vote.
Board members commended students and staff for program accomplishments, and trustees instructed administration to handle trip logistics and finalize fundraising allocations.
