Sarpy County approves design contracts for I‑80 interchange, pedestrian signals and 132nd Street improvements

The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners approved three professional service agreements that county staff said will advance planning and design work on highway and local street projects.

County Engineer Zach Hergenrater (S9) briefed the board on Resolution 124, a professional services agreement with JEO Consulting Inc. to design a new I‑80 interchange and connect adjacent roadway projects, with a not‑to‑exceed cost of $430,992.50. Hergenrater said the work will link Capehart Road and 192nd/156th corridor work and connect two currently separate construction projects.

The board then approved Resolution 126, a $44,720 agreement with Felsberg, Holt & Ullevig to evaluate and design pedestrian crossing upgrades near two elementary schools and to update the traffic signal cabinet and controller at 168th & Cornhusker. Hergenrater noted that the work targets school‑front pedestrian safety.

Resolution 127, a $203,500 contract with HGM Associates, was approved for design work east of 132nd and south of Main Street near Springfield; Hergenrater said turn lanes may be included if warranted by traffic studies. Each resolution passed after a motion, a second and brief discussion; motions were recorded as passed in the meeting transcript.

By approving these agreements, the county authorized the design and engineering steps that precede construction; commissioners asked staff to provide follow‑up details on turn‑lane warrants and final signal decisions for specific intersections.
