At its meeting the Jennings County School Corporation board approved a slate of operational and personnel items, accepted community donations, and authorized contractual continuations for student services.
Personnel and hires: The board approved certified personnel recommendations (including Valerie Bingham for Northburn Elementary summer school teacher and a career increment stipend for Emily Consler for multiple school years) and multiple support-staff appointments and volunteer coach designations as read by staff. Motions were made and approved with recorded voice votes in favor.
Policies and handbook: The board voted to approve a set of new policies as presented and accepted revisions to the classified handbook that include updated inclement-weather procedures and clarified confidentiality language; the handbook changes were highlighted for board review as part of the motion.
Transportation and pay: To address construction-related rerouting, the board approved short-term extra pay for bus route 309 to cover roughly 44 extra miles per day. The board also approved raising the field-trip bus contractor rate by $0.25 per mile — the first increase in over six years — to offset rising fuel costs.
Contracts and MOUs: The board approved continuation of an MOU with Beck Speech Therapy for online speech services for grades 4–12 at an increased rate of $78 per hour (a $1/hour increase) and approved an MOU with First Steps to provide transition services at the three-year-old mark.
Donations: The board accepted many community donations across schools and programs. Staff read a long list of gifts and monetary donations; among the items read aloud were an $835.06 donation from Mike Wascomb to Hayden Elementary for a wireless transmitter with rechargeable battery, $300 from Graham Presbyterian Church for the Hope Food Program, and multiple gift-card and in-kind donations for staff-appreciation events and student programs. Staff thanked the community for broad support.
Votes on routine items were recorded as unanimous in the meeting record. Board members were repeatedly thanked by staff for support during Staff Appreciation Week. The board adjourned after completing business.
