Brown County Commission approves computer purchase, wage‑structure revisions and authorizes insurance RFP

At its May 11 meeting the Brown County Commission approved several routine administrative actions including a computer purchase, wage‑structure revisions and authorization to solicit proposals from an insurance broker.
The board voted to buy five HP computers from Connection Public Sector Solutions for $5,389.85 after staff said the lower quote would meet the county’s needs. The motion to approve the bid was moved by the Chair and approved on a voice vote with commissioners answering ‘aye.’
Other actions approved during the meeting included accepting the minutes from the April 4 meeting; approving accounts payable for the period listed on the agenda (05/11 through 05/11/2016 as printed); and adopting revisions to the county’s 2026 salary and wage structure, which reflected reorganizations and new line items for departments such as Road & Bridge, emergency management and the landfill director.
The commission also moved to authorize staff to respond to a request for proposal from Saylor Insurance and to share necessary renewal and claims information with prospective vendors. The board approved participation in the Kansas State Fair’s 250th celebration and allocated the requested $250 from commission funds for a county booth.
Several short executive sessions were announced during the meeting to discuss attorney‑client matters and county information‑security measures; on returning to open session officials stated no binding action had been taken during those sessions. The meeting adjourned at about 4:17 p.m.
The votes on motions were taken by voice and recorded as carried; where the roll was not read aloud the board recorded ‘aye’ responses and the Chair declared the motion carried.
