Referendum projects on track; district details progress at several elementary sites

District operations staff provided an update on referendum projects during the May 11 work session.
Cale told the board the district has five active projects and one completed project (Washington Middle School). Star Elementary is progressing toward finishes and HVAC commissioning; Doty Elementary’s addition is nearly doubling the building size and is on track for an addition completion and site work in July. Cale said usable furniture and learning materials from closing schools will be inventoried and transferred to consolidating schools and other sites in need.
Cale reported Beaumont has started demolition and footing work after a land exchange with the city allowed the district to adjust site plans. Chapel’s work has contended with water‑related site challenges but is moving forward. Lincoln’s addition is out of the ground and utility tie‑ins are in progress to accept consolidated students before the next school year. The presenter said contingency planning and aggressive scheduling helped avoid major inflationary cost impacts so far.
The Red Smith bid package — an auditorium addition and secure entrance — is complete and expected to go out to bid this summer. Cale said secure entrance design work for other schools is in the design queue and that the district continues to coordinate land exchange logistics with the city to simplify site ownership and maintenance.
