Greensville County board approves Juneteenth day off, textbook adoption and multiple personnel recommendations

The Greensville County School Board approved several action items at its May 11 meeting, moving through personnel approvals, a calendar change and a textbook adoption by voice vote.

Administration recommended that Thursday, June 18, 2026 be a day off for all employees to observe Juneteenth while the district is operating on a summer four‑day schedule; the board voted to adopt the calendar revision. The recommendation came from administration and was approved after a motion and second.

The board also approved recommended textbooks for Greensville Elementary for the 2026–27 school year after administration presented details in the meeting packet. The motion to adopt the textbooks carried by voice vote.

Personnel and student recommendations that had been discussed in closed session were presented and approved in public motions. The board twice approved personnel matters arising from closed sessions — once earlier in the meeting tied to student and personnel recommendations and again following a second closed session — with motions made and carried by voice votes.

Dr. Scott, the executive director of student services, presented 10 policies for first reading, including IGAJ (driver’s education), IGBARL (services for students with disabilities and virtual offerings), attendance and admissions regulations, JFCDRL (weapons in schools), a substance abuse program policy and a new student‑athlete heat‑safety policy. Those policies were presented for first reading and will return in June for final action.

No roll‑call vote tallies were recorded in the public transcript; motions were carried after the customary “ayes” were voiced and the chair declared that “the ayes have it.”
