Alder Profett elected Green Bay Common Council president; Alder Hutcherson elected vice president

The Green Bay Common Council elected Alder Alyssa Profett president and Alder Jim Hutcherson vice president during its April 21 organizational meeting.
After being nominated from the floor, Profett and Kathy Austinine Hinkfist spoke to the council. Debate included a procedural motion on whether to use a secret ballot for the president’s election that failed 4–8; the council then proceeded with roll-call verbal voting. The clerk reported seven votes for Alder Profett and five for Alder Hinkfist, and the mayor declared Profett the new council president. The vice-presidential vote produced 11 votes for Alder Hutcherson and one for the other nominee; Hutcherson was declared vice president.
Council members framing their choices emphasized collaboration and experience. Alder Grant urged members to choose a leader who “brings people together, not someone who creates division,” and Alder Presley praised Profett’s preparation and relationships with staff. Profett thanked colleagues and outlined a collaborative approach to the next two years.
The new leadership will preside over a council that immediately moved to committee appointments, ordinance readings and several development items. The council scheduled a photograph of the newly seated members and recessed briefly before returning to business.
