Over the course of the evening the council asked a standard set of questions of multiple applicants — including Renee Ramsey (medical laboratory technician), Brandon (local high-school teacher), Gina (product manager and EMT), Joseph Shastau (university administrator and PhD), Bishop Jensen (local business owner), Matt Rasu (community resident), Wendy (human-resources professional) and others — about teamwork, ethics and priorities for the city. Applicants commonly emphasized housing, child care and economic development as priorities.
Council members then used a paper ballot process to nominate finalists; after a tie-breaking round, the council reported a three-to-two split in preferences and indicated Joseph (recorded as Joseph Shastau / Shastelle in the transcript) received the plurality of written choices. Staff said the council’s selection is a consensus pick and that a formal appointment vote and oath of office will occur at the next council meeting (scheduled for June 2).
