Big Lake Robotics recalls season highlights, wins awards and requests more space

Ben Lauderba, head coach of the Big Lake robotics team, and student captains presented a season recap that emphasized outreach, competition results and program needs. Students described community engagement at the Big Lake Community Fair, STEM night and Spudfest, and said the team uses tools such as Bamboo Labs 3D printers and a swerve drive base to prototype and improve robot performance.
Student leaders reported that the team competed at the Great Northern Regional in Grand Forks and the Granite City Regional in St. Cloud and noted a recent award (first imagery award) for the team’s visuals and branding. Students said the program currently has 18 members spanning grades 7–12 and that practice and assembly space are increasingly constrained; the fabrication captain asked the district for additional space to allow full‑sized robot drive practice and programming tuning.
Coach Lauderba and students thanked sponsors and the district for support and said they are available to present or demonstrate the robot outside the meeting when space constraints preclude an in‑room demonstration. Board members praised student growth, leadership and community representation but did not vote on a facilities request during the meeting.
