Council discussion focused on the trade-offs between buying new equipment (some new models include turbos that can suffer in heavy idle use) and the lower immediate cost and warranty of an engine rebuild. Council Member Heman moved to rebuild; Council Member Peterson seconded the motion, which passed by unanimous vote.
Staff said the approved amount corresponds to the presented option and includes the vendor warranty terms discussed during the meeting. Council noted the truck’s replacement remains planned in the CIP for a later year but that rebuilding the engine preserves current operations in the short term.
