Isanti council approves three-day permit for Rum River BMX state finals

The Isanti City Council on Aug. 5 approved a three-day special-event permit for Rum River BMX’s Minnesota State Finals, set for Aug. 22–24, authorizing camping on the grass south of the indoor arena and additional portables, and waiving the $100 cleanup deposit.
City staff told the council that organizers estimate 800–1,000 attendees per day, requested 10 barricades and 25 temporary no-parking signs, and submitted the required documentation. Council Member Lundine moved to approve the permit; Council Member Peterson seconded the motion, which carried 5-0.
The council praised Rum River BMX’s volunteer organization and its draw to the area. “The BMX does a lot of great things for our community,” a council member said during discussion, noting the regional attraction of the indoor arena. Staff confirmed organizers will clean the site after the event and provide additional portable restrooms.
The approval includes the conditions discussed in the packet: use of the designated camping area, placement of portables, and the city-provided temporary signage and barricades. The council’s motion did not specify additional restrictions beyond standard permit conditions.
With the permit approved, staff will finalize logistics with event organizers and coordinate city services for traffic and signage needs during the three-day event.
