An unnamed staff presenter summarized the most recent draft as a single baseball field for 12U play, two small soccer fields for younger players and parking provision of about 67 spaces. The plan would add storage and restroom capacity and could be phased depending on funding.
"Our biggest immediate needs is some smaller soccer fields," said Rick Lener, giving his address and identifying himself as "executive director elect CDAA." He added that the CDAA already has funds and would "be able to assist" depending on the final plan and grant opportunities.
Commissioners asked about lighting, restroom size and spectator capacity; staff said those elements depend on funding and site constraints. Members raised safety concerns about foul balls and the nearby road and discussed fencing and netting options to reduce liability and protect traffic. No firm construction estimate was available and staff said they will refine design and costs before returning for further action.
The commission noted the project’s timing may hinge on a public-works building expansion; staff suggested soccer fields might be achievable in an earlier phase while baseball fields and parking depend on the larger timetable and available money.
Next steps: staff will refine the preferred concept, develop preliminary cost estimates, and return to the commission with funding scenarios that may combine CDAA contributions, grants and city dollars.
