The Kasson City Park Board on April 15 approved a brochure and flyer and launched a fundraising campaign to install an ADA-accessible “inclusive” swing in a city park.
The board moved and approved a motion to accept the brochure and flyer for distribution to businesses and at community events. The presenter said the materials include donation instructions directing donors to designate contributions to the park fund with a note such as “park swing” or “inclusive swing.” A donor plaque is available; board members said John Hansen at KLG offered to make the plaque.
Park staff discussed project scope and timing. Staff said they would aim to get the swing installed by fall, and a board member asked whether an accelerated timeline could get work done by the end of the summer. Park staff said, “I would love to try to get this done by the end of this summer,” while also calling a fall install feasible if fundraising takes longer.
Board members described the required site work: pour a concrete sidewalk to the swing, install a padded rubberized surfacing over the concrete for wheelchair access, and leave wood chips beyond that surfacing; they said ADA guidance makes a solid approach necessary, not wood chips alone. Members discussed using city advertising funds to print color brochures and agreed the brochure would be shown at the Festival in the Park booth and to businesses first to solicit larger donations, then to individual donors.
The board said the broader fundraising target previously discussed is $15,000 (noted in the meeting as a target from earlier conversations); members emphasized that even if installation and primary equipment cost less, additional standalone features could be added later as donations permit. The presenter will circulate a revised, single-font proof and coordinate color printing with city staff.
The motion to accept the brochure and flyer carried without a recorded roll-call tally in the transcript; the presenter will resend final artwork for printing and distribution.
What’s next: staff will circulate the revised brochure, begin outreach to businesses and community partners, and return to the board with fundraising progress and any contractor/inspection needs.
