The IDEA charter school’s governance board voted not to extend its existing contract with the D C Everest Area School District, administration told the board at the meeting. Administration said the governance board cited declining enrollment and staffing turnover (two of four adviser/teacher roles changed or moved) as drivers of the decision, and that the IDEA governing board remains committed to preserving the school’s educational experience. Jeff (administration) said discussions with IDEA’s governing board have been collaborative and framed the change as a handoff to the district rather than a closure.

District officials said IDEA and Odyssey are expected to continue operating in the same physical space for the coming year; IDEA would shift from a charter contract to a program model while Odyssey remains a school. A community meeting for families was scheduled for April 28 to share plans and next steps. The district emphasized it will seek to preserve project-based learning opportunities during and after the transition.
