Sarpy County approves $111,150 in tourism grants and $175,605 building master-plan contract

The Sarpy County board on April 28 approved seven tourism grant awards totaling $111,150 and a professional-services agreement to produce a county building master plan.
Assistant County Administrator Beth Garber presented the visitors committeeE28099s recommendations for the tourism grant program, which she said was revised to prioritize sports and marketing-related events. The seven awards cover a mix of youth sports tournaments, national conferences and specialty shows; staff said two of the events alone are estimated to generate more than $1.3 million in visitor spending combined.
The board also approved Resolution 100, a $175,605 contract with Clark and Anderson to develop a Sarpy County building master plan that will inventory county space, define programming needs and provide conceptual plans to guide facilities decisions over the next 20 years. Garber said purchasing received six proposals and recommended Clark and Anderson after evaluation and interviews.
Commissioners voted to approve the grants and the contract after brief presentation and questions. Garber said staff will work to collect better data on hotel-room nights and economic impact estimates as part of the grant program's evaluation going forward.
Next steps: staff to execute grant agreements and begin master-plan work, with details and timelines to be reported back to the board in subsequent agenda packets.
