The Stewartville City Council voted to award a contract for repairs to the Florence Park fishing pier and approved a Minnesota Department of Transportation detour agreement during its general business session.
In the pier repair matter, council members reviewed two bids for salvaging and removing the existing fishing-platform structure, removing and disposing four existing footings nearest the pond, and furnishing and installing new 18-inch helical or steel piles anchored to bedrock before resetting the fishing pier platform. Two bids were read aloud: Delore Construction at $12,500 and Dozing and Excavating at $15,750. A council member moved to award the contract to the lowest responsible bidder; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The council also considered a resolution authorizing the city to execute an agreement with the Minnesota Department of Transportation to accept payment for road-life consumed on several local streets that will be used as a temporary trunk-highway detour while work is done on Highway 30. The resolution referenced MnDOT agreement number 1061936; a council member moved, the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The meeting then moved into routine reports. Mayor King offered condolences to several families and thanked the Chamber of Commerce for Winterfest; staff and department heads gave brief operational updates. Public works director Sean reported roughly 250 water-meter replacements completed and noted the work is funded by the city’s water funds. The fire chief summarized January calls and personnel changes.
The council adjourned after brief committee reports.
