Board approves resolution to return state preschool to Forest Grove campus

The Pacific Grove Unified School District Board of Education on May 6 unanimously approved Resolution 11-195 authorizing submission of a licensing application to relocate the California State Preschool Program back to Forest Grove.

Principal Abby Arin told the board the preschool had been temporarily moved earlier in the year for licensing reasons and that bringing it back to Forest Grove would better connect families with the elementary campus. "We are now in the final steps of bringing the program back to Forest Grove, which we believe will better serve our students and families by connecting them to our elementary campus," Arin said.

Clerk Shamas asked for clarification about the listed "site supervisor" role in the application and whether district supervisory roles differ from licensing definitions. Arin and Dr. Adamson said licensing defines the site-supervisor designation and that the district has clarified roles so staff responsibilities are defined even if licensing terminology differs.

Trustee Wax moved to approve the resolution; Trustee Hazen seconded. The board voted 5-0 to adopt Resolution 11-195.

The board packet cited licensing and program continuity as the reasons for the relocation; Arin said the move would allow the preschool to reconnect with the elementary campus and families. The district did not provide additional budget or timetable details in the meeting presentation.

The district will proceed with the licensing application process required by state preschool regulations; staff will return with further updates as appropriate.
