Stewartville council approves routine items, hears updates on meter replacements and community events

At its regular meeting, the Stewartville City Council approved the agenda, prior minutes and accounts payable and received reports on a citywide water-meter replacement program, library activity and upcoming community events including Winterfest.
The Stewartville City Council opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, approved the meeting agenda and the regular meeting minutes, and approved accounts payable including an additional payable listing.
Finance Officer Kelly moved to approve the accounts payable; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote. Council then moved into general business and heard staff reports.
City Administrator Shiml and Public Works Director Sean described a citywide water-meter replacement program that will continue over the coming months. Staff said residents may receive door hangers and calls to schedule installation; crews have completed nearly 100 installs to date and are working through neighborhoods in sections. Staff member Dylan described an online scheduling tool residents can use to book appointments and choose a technician.
Mayor Jimmy John King presented community items and condolences, noting the opening of the Open Hearts food shelf at the United Methodist Church, an upcoming Winterfest on Feb. 6–7, a benefit breakfast Feb. 8 at the American Legion for Northstar Honor Flight, and other community opportunities. The mayor also congratulated Laurel Jacobs on her retirement.
There was no public comment during the open-mic portion of the meeting. Council adjourned following a motion to close the session.
