Committee to name ad hoc plaque group for David Schooley and expects five members for May meeting

Staff asked the Public Art Advisory Committee to provide a representative to an ad hoc subcommittee (with Open Space & Ecology and Parks & Recreation) to draft a dedication and acknowledgement plaque honoring David Schooley’s environmental work on San Bruno Mountain. Staff said the ad hoc group would likely meet once or twice and then make a recommendation to the City Council.

Committee members discussed timing and availability; several members noted they prefer not to delay selection and volunteered to serve. Staff explained that council-appointed replacements are being processed after recent interviews and that the committee is expected to have five seated members in time for the May meeting; additional appointments may follow the initial swearing-in.

Members also discussed the committee’s composition after recent implementation-guideline changes that removed strict seat attachments (for example, council seats vs. parks seats) and confirmed that park-related projects will continue to be coordinated with the Parks & Recreation Commission, with Tom acting as a nonvoting parks-and-rec liaison to facilitate project coordination.

The chair and staff thanked outgoing members for their service and reminded the committee of a ribbon-cutting for the stairway scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
