Staff told the Public Art Advisory Committee that a recent community-wide survey run through the City's Engage platform drew more than 140 responses and produced clear top picks for three recommended public-art locations. Committee members reviewed the attached staff report showing the poll results.
For the dog park the committee identified Alexis Gray as the top vote recipient (74 votes). For the marina, Chris Granillo led the field with 62 votes and Angelina Duckett (a mosaicist) placed second; committee members discussed that the marina includes multiple sub-sites and therefore considered fit and theme for linear sites. Mission Blue was a close contest, decided by a single vote margin; the committee discussed whether two artists could share separate sub-sites but ultimately favored selecting a single cohesive look with committee authority to refine final designs.
After discussion about aesthetics, seating, and site constraints, a motion to approve the recommended slate of artists to award contracts was made, seconded and approved by voice vote with ‘Aye’ recorded. Committee members noted the strong response to the call for proposals — roughly 75 submissions — and affirmed that final design details will be refined by staff and the committee during subsequent review and contracting steps.
Staff will proceed with contract award processes to finalize scopes and budgets for each site, and the committee will retain design-review authority before final installation.
