Trustees approve change orders and PO increases to finish Village Arts Factory and park pathways

The Canton Township Board of Trustees approved a series of contract amendments and purchase-order increases to finish work in Cherry Hill Village’s redevelopment area, including the Village Arts Factory parking improvements and related architectural services.
Trustees approved an increase to the purchase order for design and construction support to Partners in Architecture to cover additional services uncovered during construction (additional elevator design and electrical work). The board also approved a $4,730 increase for quality-assurance testing of the parking-lot concrete and a $41,584 increase to cover additional construction expenses for drainage and lighting required by the site conditions.
Parks and engineering staff described the changes as normal discoveries that arise when working on historic buildings and changing site topography near the adjacent creek; staff said some previously awarded POs will be reduced to offset the funding needs and noted part of the Town Square/Cherry Hill Village investment came from American Rescue Plan Act funds via an intergovernmental agreement.
Separately, the board approved a $345,000 purchase order to Best Asphalt Incorporated for pathway repairs at Barchester, Floating and Freedom Parks; staff said the project will be funded through an MEDC grant as part of the sidewalk and pathway improvement program.
Director Lef Fever told the board the Village Arts Factory project is nearing completion and that additional work reflected in these change orders will keep the project on track for a hoped-for grand opening this summer. Engineering staff described the drainage work as an underground solution (culverts and regrading) to move water away from the building and protect the structure.
What’s next: staff said they will continue to manage remaining construction punch-list items, coordinate grant-funded reimbursements where applicable, and post schedules and outreach materials for public events tied to the Village Arts Factory and Cherry Hill Village.
