"Hobby breeders in AKC perspective have a very niche and nuanced complexion," Johnson said, urging the city to align any local language with forthcoming state law and to ensure veterinary care is considered in restrictions. Commissioner Rydell asked Johnson to submit suggested ordinance language to the city attorney prior to the next meeting; Johnson agreed he could provide proposed edits.
Commissioner Rydell moved to table the ordinance to the next meeting to allow staff and the AKC to review and potentially refine the language. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously, with the city clerk recording the roll call.
Next steps: the AKC will provide suggested revisions to the city attorney, who will review proposed language with staff before the ordinance returns for final consideration.
