The Stewartville City Council approved a resolution authorizing special assessments for unpaid current-service charges, including utilities and property maintenance, under Minnesota Statutes cited in the meeting.
Staff explained the legal authority (Minn. Stat. §§ 444.075 subd. 3 and 429.101) and confirmed that property owners listed in the packet have been notified of their past-due amounts and still have an opportunity to pay before final assessment or recording. The council moved, seconded and approved the resolution on a voice vote.
A council member asked whether the assessments had already been applied; staff clarified the assessments had not yet been recorded and owners could still remit payment to avoid the charge. The council did not discuss individual account details during the meeting.
The resolution passed on a voice vote; the city will proceed with the assessment process consistent with state statute and city ordinance.
