The Holmen School District Board of Education opened its April 27 organizational meeting by administering ceremonial oaths to newly elected members and establishing a quorum with six of seven members present.
The board appointed Jennifer Deak to serve as temporary chair to conduct elections and then cast a unanimous ballot for Deak as president after nomination. Chris Laauo was nominated and approved as vice president; Maggie Smith was nominated and approved as clerk (excused from tonight’s meeting but willing to serve); and Barb Wench was approved as treasurer.
The board also considered routine annual designations and appointments. Members voted to designate the La Crosse Tribune as the district’s official newspaper for legal notices and district publications. The board approved renewing membership in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association for 2026–27 and renewing district membership in the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB). Khadija Islam was appointed as the district’s WASB representative for the coming year, and Jennifer Deak will serve again as the district’s CISA cooperative-agency representative. The board approved the 2026–27 meeting calendar (regular meetings proposed for the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m.).
All motions described above were moved, seconded, and passed by voice vote without recorded roll-call tallies. The items placed on the consent agenda were subsequently approved in a single consent vote later in the meeting.
The board adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
