Todd Christensen, Isanti-area County Commissioner (District 4), spoke during the public-comment period and urged city and county staff to consider installing a roundabout at the intersection of 8th Avenue and Heritage near the intermediate school when repaving occurs next year. Christensen said the intersection is dangerous for children, noted school-bus traffic and recalled a past incident in which a child was struck at that location.
Christensen said the county had planned repaving and median work, and suggested including the roundabout now to avoid redoing the same area later. Council members and county staff discussed jurisdictional questions, speed-limit signage and whether a speed study or state rules constrain changes on county roads. Christensen said he would follow up with staff (Justin) to clarify options and whether coordination with state agencies is required.
The comment was delivered during the public-comment period; no formal council action was taken on the intersection at the meeting, though members asked staff to continue exploring options.
