Isanti council approves car show and fireworks permits with neighborhood notification requirement for fireworks

The Isanti City Council unanimously approved two special-event permits on the consent agenda: a one-day Summer Sendoff Showdown car show at the firefighter rodeo grounds and a fireworks display for a private wedding at Delightful Acres.
Staff told the council that the car show will run Aug. 23 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., will include vendors and food trucks, and has an estimated attendance of 200–300 people; a temporary liquor license for the event has been approved by the city and state. The council voted to approve the special-event permit by motion (recorded outcome: 5-0).
For the fireworks permit, staff said the Rice Fire District’s fire chief inspected the site plan and recommended approval after reviewing the submitted site plan, insurance and state certifications. Councilmembers raised concerns about neighbors and pets; the resolution was amended to require that the applicant notify all properties within 350 feet of the property line. One council member recommended that repeat uses should return for separate approvals. The fireworks permit was approved 5-0.
Council did not adopt standing exemptions for future events; staff said applicants must request permits for future uses and the city will continue to require proper documentation and, where applicable, neighbor notification.
