The board voted to approve the district's intercollegiate activities program and to designate Director Milo as the Orting School District's representative to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for 2026———2027; members also approved Resolution 11.2026 renewing WIAA membership.
Athletic staff reported rising participation at middle- and high-school levels, noted shifts in gender participation (middle-school male participation has increased to match enrollment; the high school is closing a prior female participation gap) and described a set of small program changes intended to improve equity. Those changes include adding girls flag football to the winter season and separating combined boys/girls golf into distinct teams with separate coaches. The athletic presenter said small additions could meaningfully reduce required compliance adjustments for girls' opportunities.
Staff warned that facilities are already strained: middle-school volleyball runs 10 teams but the building has capacity for only three courts; track, soccer and football schedules sometimes conflict and require teams to practice off-site or at other times. The athletic director urged the board to consider facility investments as part of future phases of construction planning.
Board members praised recent successes — including the boys wrestling team's state championships and equestrian qualifiers — and approved the athletic program motions without objection.
What's next: Athletic staff will proceed with the approved program changes and continue to report on participation, facilities needs and coach-recruitment efforts at future meetings.
