The New Prague City Council voted to deny a new THC license application for Anna Tobacco at 410 Main Street West after staff reported past violations that, under city ordinance 121.03, disqualify the applicant.
Chief Applin presented the licensing background checks and said the investigation showed multiple violations and fines issued by OCM in 2024. “Those violations essentially would prohibit the licensure of a THC, a new license in the city of New,” he told the council during the meeting.
Council members were told tobacco licensing is handled administratively and that any administrative appeals would come before the council. Staff indicated the city’s ordinance considers violations within the prior five years when deciding whether to grant a new license.
A motion to deny the THC application, based on staff recommendation and ordinance 121.03, was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote recorded as 4-0 in favor. The transcript does not record the mover or seconder by name.
Why it matters: Denying the license prevents the applicant from opening under the THC licensing framework in New Prague until violations fall outside the five-year window or an appeal alters the outcome. The council’s action applies the city’s public-safety and licensing standards.
Next steps: The applicant may pursue administrative appeal options described in city procedures; staff will finalize the administrative record related to the application.
